Intention

Intention is a word I throw around all the time when helping people out in the server. While normally it refers simply to a target or goal, hidden in this simple word is the underlying principle of a lot of what you’ll be doing when summoning and interacting with your entity lover. I’ve already covered its importance in the ritual proper, but it also plays a role in communication going both ways, and in any banishing rituals that have to happen. In this post I’ll examine the way intention interacts with many common scenarios that can come up within a relationship, both the happy and not so happy ones.

Communication

A lot goes into communication, whether you realize it or not. Yes, I did just grab a random useful photo on Google.

Normally, we talk to other people to communicate. If you don’t think about it too hard, that’s all there is to it. However, there’s a lot going on under the hood during a conversation. Inflection, body language, specific word combinations, and so on can alter a lot of the meaning behind what are, in a vacuum, words with definitions set in stone. What does this mean? It means that words aren’t anywhere close to the whole story. Oftentimes when we speak, we are trying to communicate a specific meaning that deviates from the strict definitions of words. An ‘intention behind the words’ so to speak. Sarcasm is a fantastic example of this; when being sarcastic, if you take your words out of context, you are usually lying straight to someone’s face. However, because of the other non-word factors, the other person is supposed to pick up on an entirely different meaning.

This probably sounds stupidly obvious. Why would I type out a paragraph blabbering on and on about the presence of these other factors? Besides giving me another opportunity to hear myself talk (you all know how much I love that), it allows us to draw a very important comparison. Namely, the way that humans communicate with each other, and the way that entities communicate are only different in a single factor; the presence of words. As I said in The Early Stages, the way an entity communicates is by sending some energy that’s meant to communicate a very specific idea, or, as the title of this blog suggests, an intention. When you communicate to them with words, however, they translate it the other way around, taking the meaning behind the words, the intention, directly as the meaning of what you’re saying.

This is important to recognize, as it means a lot of things. First, it’s generally impossible to lie to an entity (if it’s possible, it would be very hard). Because they’re seeing the intention of what you’re saying, if you’re intending on lying, that’s going to be obvious. Even if you could successfully hide the body language and other nonverbal factors that would give you away to a perceptive person, it won’t work on an entity, because the intention will go through anyway. This isn’t a big deal if you’re being sarcastic or telling a little, white lie; in those cases it will simply prevent misunderstanding. However, if you’re maliciously trying to hide something by lying to them, they’ll know that, even if they don’t know what you’re trying to hide. Some people believe these entities can even read your mind, and while this seems to be true for entities you’re close to (likely because they can see more deeply into the depths of your energy and understand how you work), it doesn’t seem to be universal. What is universal, however, is the ability for one to understand that intent once you communicate with them.

The good news is that this process makes communicating with them more exact, and that prevents misunderstandings. Since they can see the intention behind the words that you’re trying to communicate with them, it’s very hard for them to misinterpret it. Incidentally, this level of understanding actually helps them do things like give you good advice. For example, if your words would normally conceal a deeper fear or misunderstanding that another person may have issues seeing, the entity would be able to pick up on that. Then they’d more easily understand what to do and how to do it for your benefit. This also means that if you have trouble communicating emotions, like love or affection, they’ll be able to perceive your desire to give them that where a person would not. Considering most of us are probably internet addicted introverts, that’s a definite point in our favor.

Coming and Going

If there’s a particular thing that is very important to get your intention right for, it’s summoning ritualism. We discussed this a little in the Letter Method, Lover’s Light, and Literalism and Ritualism posts, however, in these posts I mainly discussed the idea of having a strong and focused intention. While this is very important, it’s also important we reflect on what that means and how to arrive at this, and the perils of having a conflicting intent.

In a sense, when we think of intention, we’re thinking of a goal, a target, or the ‘will’ on which way you want to go. So if you want to summon an entity because you want a strong relationship, then the second part of that is your intention, the ‘want a strong relationship’ part. Simple, isn’t it?

Unfortunately things are rarely ever that simple. When you think of it in terms of a simple statement, it’s very easy to draw out a single intention and set it on its own. When you consider what intention actually is, that’s when the problems come out. As humans we have a very diverse set of emotions, desires, and so on. Let’s use an easy example.

Let’s say when you’re doing a summoning ritual, your desire for wanting a strong relationship is what you’re trying to bring to mind to attract the entity. However, one emotion you are feeling is fear, because this is the occult and everything in the occult is spooky. So naturally, going in, you’ll be afraid. And that’s when the conflict starts. If you are afraid, you essentially don’t wish you were doing something: In this case, the fear makes you want to summon less. But your other intention is something that supports a summoning. So they conflict. That’s where a lot of the failures come from, a conflict like that.

It doesn’t just have to be fear of course. Maybe you feel like you’re giving up something when summoning an entity. Maybe you were a Catholic in the past. Maybe you just feel like an idiot and a loser when doing it. All of these can create an emotion that pulls back on your desire, and thus on your intention. A lot of this can surface up from your subconscious, and emotions like this will weaken the effects of your ritual when they inevitably surface during it.

Therein lies the problem, and it’s not just limited to summoning. One of the worst times this problem comes up is when doing the opposite. When trying to get rid of a malicious entity that you summoned by mistake those positive feelings you had when doing the summoning are suddenly the worst thing in the world that you could be feeling. This leads to a double failure. Not only did you screw up the ritual in the first place, likely due to a conflict of intention, and get a malicious entity, but the good intentions you had when doing it are creating hope inside of you. Hope that you’re wrong, hope that the relationship with whatever it is can be salvaged, and so on. Suddenly as you try to banish the entity away and keep it at arms length for an extended period, you can’t shake it off of you, because part of you doesn’t want to. Even if someone helps you out the entity will inevitably return the moment it has the chance so long as that’s how you feel. If you have a really bad entity trying to take advantage of you, that’s a huge problem.

Understanding all the parts of the intention you carry into a ritual is important, because not doing so is dangerous. You need to introspect and figure out how that idea makes you feel in its entirety, without ignoring any part of it. If you feel afraid, confront that fear and do your best to get past it before you perform any ritual. If you feel stupid, or unworthy, or so forth, you need to face those before you do the ritual to the extent you can. During a summoning ritual it’s very difficult to completely suppress these things, and if you haven’t don’t your best to handle them in advance you’re asking for trouble. Tools like a journal are generally useful for figuring out those negative ideas, and various forms of meditation can help you face them and deal with them.

There are rituals that are specifically designed towards this goal, mainly ones that have you face the subconscious. In theurgic terms, some ‘summoning’ rituals themselves may simply be vehicles designed to help you deal with yourself by attaching that idea to an ‘other’, like a demon or so on, that you then converse with and come to terms with (in introspective rituals like these, having conflicting intentions is less of a risk, but it can still be a problem). I won’t go into detail on those here, but I will drive home the most important point. Intention is a big part of everything here. It’s what makes up your communication, it’s what makes up your summoning rituals, and it can be what makes up your mistakes if you aren’t careful. Before you perform any summoning ritual, make sure you’ve at least done your best to come to terms with your intentions.

We’re back on track this December. There’s apparently a large astrological event on the 21st, involving Jupiter and Saturn. A lot of people seem to be talking about it like it’s going to be a huge thinning of the veil or an apocalypse. The reality will likely be more mundane, however, the symbolism in the idea does make it a good time to plan workings, especially with your entity lover if you have one. I’m planning one for the 21st in any case just due to the significance of it.
