Interview

I’m a pretty skeptical person when it comes to ritualism. If you’ve talked to me about them before, or read the Literalism and Ritualism blogpost, you’d know I mainly subscribe to a very psychological viewpoint as to the usage of ritualism. In short, we do rituals the way we do them because the parts of the ritual symbolize the emotions, drive, and so on that we need to accomplish a ritual goal, helping push ourselves towards it. At this point I now believe in some other factors, but those are some of the most primary ones. Because of that I generally recommend avoiding the more extreme rituals, citing them more as ways to communicate certain ideas than as actual rituals to be performed.

However, there are people who perform these more extreme rituals from time to time. Within the server, one of my friends, whose username is TimT, is one such person. He has an infatuation with the Liber Lilith book and decided he would attempt one of the rituals in a literal fashion. He is also behind this Youtube Channel, within which he talks about the different chapters within the book. If you want to take a look at that to get a better understanding of his viewpoints regarding said book, then feel free. I will not be commenting on the channel.

Once I realized I couldn’t talk him out of the attempt, I decided it would be a good idea to interview Tim about it, the steps involved, and the book itself for a blog post. While Tim and I disagree on even foundational methodology when it comes to ritualism (hence him attempting this in the first place), I’ll be presenting his answers to my questions as fairly as I can. We will be covering the book, the ritual preparations, the actual ritual itself, and the results within the interview. I’ll also be providing some pictures that he took during the process of a couple of the ingredients he had to make. He has given me permission to use these pictures.

With all that being said, let’s dive right in. The word’s are Tim’s own, except where edited for the sake of readability and in one case where summarized. We talked about the book, the ritual attempt, and the results themselves. If you want to learn more of his thoughts on any one chapter, his Youtube Channel linked above will have those there. This post isn’t for me to argue with Tim or his points (even though many of you know I revel in being a contrarian), so I will not be providing extensive personal thoughts on his points. I also won’t be quoting the book directly, and all information regarding it is coming secondhand from Tim.

The Book

The book is where the ritual he performed comes from, so it makes sense to start with that. We’ll be discussing the grimoire section of the book and where the ritual information comes from. Questions are in Italics, responses in quotes.

For starters, which ritual did you choose to do and why did you go with that one?

“I decided to attempt the Invocation ritual in chapter 15, and to do this I had to gather all the required tools from chapter 14. The reason I chose this one was because it would have been a good starting point for making and strengthening a connection with Lilith.”

Tell me some background about the book. How would you sort of summarize its structure and what it teaches you?

“There are 4 parts to Liber Lilith. These are:

1. The history
2. The grimoire
3. The Journal of Karl Steiger
4. Donald Tyson’s own study notes for the grimoire

Donald Tyson allegedly received the grimoire telepathically from Lilith herself. While this may seem absurd and silly, after my research on the grimoire portion, I genuinely feel that it is legit. The history and journal are both fictional. Although I do suspect that Tyson has made some educated guesses on who else had copies of LL in history. As far as I am concerned, Liber Lilith to me is 100% about the grimoire section. This is the only portion that comes from Lilith herself.”

Do you believe that Lilith communicated this book to Tyson, another spirit did, or that no spirit at all communicated it?

In regards to this idea, he lists a few scenarios and his thoughts on these.

Scenario A – Donald Tyson is straight up lying and made up the book. If this were true, then none of the curses in the book should affect people. Yet, from what I saw when doing research, several people who invoked curses suffered terrible fates. Also this book has a very haunted reputation that would not be possible if it was fake.
Scenario B – Donald Tyson is delusional/imaging things and no spirit contacted him. There are some puzzles and riddles in the book that would take a healthy amount of self understanding to think of, which makes the idea that he was deluded harder to accept.
Scenario C – A spirit genuinely communicated with Tyson, but it is not Lilith. I don’t really see another spirit being able to do something like that to another. Especially to one reputably as powerful as Lilith herself without suffering extreme consequences in the spirit world.
Scenario D – Donald Tyson did communicate with Lilith but there was interference. This could be a possibility that I haven’t ruled out. But I also think Lilith would have fixed any errors during communication. Allegedly when the book was being written by Tyson, he spent one hour a day per chapter.
Scenario E – Lilith communicated the full book in full translation without interference. I think some of the stuff in the book that is mentioned is beyond Tyson’s scope of knowledge. Tyson is not a farmer. Nor is he a blacksmith, or a tanner. The book covers some rare old topics that are very obscure and hard to research. For instance, tanning a hide in a river was not something that is modernly known. It was done during ancient times.”

Could you talk more about the grimoire and what all goes on inside of it? Maybe talk or summarize the different events and rituals within it?

I’m going to summarize this answer, for the sake of brevity, and add in a few things of my own (mainly in parentheses) to add some context to what I was told.

‘The grimoire portion in Liber Lilith starts with a gnostic driven interpretation of biblical events, with references to ideas within the Zohar and other mystical ideas. The creator creates and in this process of creation creates Barbelon. Due to jealousy she tries to create a beautiful entity, but presumably because the basis of this entity is her own jealous feelings, it becomes an abomination. This is Samael (importantly, Samael is Satan in Jewish mythology), the first of the archons. He gets lonely and creates Lilith, has sex with her, and the two give birth to Leviathan. Due to this dragon’s power, they can create further legions of demons from their intercourse together. Samael is punished and castrated for this. The creator then tricks Lilith, showing her an image of mankind and using her lust (that Samael can no longer fulfill) to encourage her to form the golem that would become Adam. She then tricks Samael into using his creative powers to give this golem life. The idea is clearly a reconstruction of the story of Eve’s eating of the apple (which happens later in this tale), the two of them through their own free will bringing their own misery.

It is then told that the Yahweh that the Jews and Adam worship is in fact Samael (again, a gnostic idea. The above is also gnostic: the creator having the blueprint of creation that is then fashioned by the ‘lower’ and ‘evil’ god, in this case Samael and Lilith). Samael makes Eve, trying to take his spark of life back while Adam is asleep, and then lusts after her and wants to lie with her (how he does this when he’d been castrated earlier, at least according to Tim, is up for debate), and Lilith stops him. Lilith then tricks them into eating from the tree of good and evil, and Samael rapes Eve while Adam is away (again, how he does this is beyond me). Then she is cursed with the menstruation cycle as a result (the menstruation cycle being a dirty or unclean time is mentioned in the bible within Leviticus and hinted at fairly explicitly within a later Genesis story, hence it being started in this ‘bad’ way here). Adam is upset when he comes back because of what had happened, but Eve still gets him to lie with her, and the child they have is of Samael because she was bleeding at the time (This child is Cain, and hence there is explanation for Cain killing his brother later). Then the Cain and Abel story happens. Adam and Eve get upset about this and Adam refused to have more kids for a time with her, essentially because she’s ‘cursed’, and is then seduced by Lilith and Naamah during the time they were seperate (if you read This Blogpost you’ve seen this before). This event happens within the Zohar, which is presumably where it was sourced from. Eve is eventually redeemed and Adam leaves the two behind.’

Even my summary ended up pretty long. This is 100 pages condensed into two paragraphs according to Tim. In any case, the next section is preparation.

The Ritual

Tim’s Finished Pentacle of Lilith on the Sheepskin Parchment

Next we discussed the ritual, it’s various parts and instruments, and the final performance of it.

Since we’ve been summarizing stuff why don’t you summarize the process before we break it down into more questions?

“The rituals describe ways in which Lilith can be used. She can be invoked into a circle to have sex with while awake or asleep. She can be used to scry into the future and find hidden things. She can be invoked into a human female to talk with directly. There is even a ritual where Lilith can be invoked into a dead body to find buried treasure, rare books, and gemstones. All of these come with their own risks. It is mentioned several times in the book with different ominous warnings. In one instance, Lilith cautions that she must be banished from the circle or the lover will be weakened by an excess of lust to the point where they won’t sleep for days. Lilith also hints at some very dark paths in the book. For instance to acquire the dead body (in a different ritual than the one Tim performed), she implies that a man could use a prostitute and murder her. This is hinted at but not directly said. Almost all the rituals and tools needed in the book require some kind of sexual action. It also often mentions that she consumes the heat of the lovers seed as payment for her services.”

I take it the ritual you performed was the first one correct?

“I performed the first ritual to invoke Lilith into the circle.”

Could you describe the process of this ritual? The general set up and what you do the night of?

“The ritual requires a lot of preliminary setup. A person must obtain several hard to acquire items. You need a pure silver pendant that is etched with Lilith’s sigil, Hebrew god names, and the Hebrew names of certain angels. Then the seal must be consecrated in the menstrual blood of a whore.

Next sheep parchment must be obtained from a young female sheep that is pure white and has copulated with a Ram recently. The parchment is then written on with an ink that is created by mixing the menstrual blood of a prostitute with scarlet ink. The parchment has two main parts, a cube section that is about 18 inches wide and long. This section is setup to have more Hebrew God names and a magical circle that binds Lilith to the 6 corners of the world.

Then the remainder of the parchment is cut into 11 strips, and written upon them a Hebrew bible verse that threatens Lilith and Samael with destruction. These strips are interconnected to form a circle, that represents a snake eating it’s own tail. With all these things obtained, Lilith is to be invoked into the circle.”

What’s the actual invoking process like?

“With everything set up, you need to pronounce the various Hebrew God names and other magical names. Lilith’s name is also given but it is written in Greek. The strange thing is, Hebrew does not contain vowels in its words. So a lot of the oral pronunciations are made by educated guesses. Scholars do not know how the Hebrew name for God was pronounced, so there are many different possibilities.

I tried my best to pronounce the Hebrew words and magical names given. Even the Greek letters for Lilith’s true name, but I do not know how close to the real thing I was. And I have no way of knowing if I was pronouncing it correctly.”

Before I ask about the results, are there any personal anecdotes or stories from the preparation or the performance you want to share?

“I do recall on my wedding night to Lilith that she showed me that one part of the book was true. She temporarily gave me the power to hear animal speech. That is one of the powers of the white powder in the book, which has many magical properties.

Also I suspect that she, like many gods and goddesses of mythology, is able to shapeshift into animals. I believe she has taken on the form of an owl several times and visited my house and done unusual things that I doubt a wild animal would ever do to a human.”

More about the ritual can be found within the book or on his YouTube Channel.

The Results

Finally, we discussed the results of the ritual attempt.

What results did you get at the time of performance and afterwards and how do you feel about them?

“So my expectation was that there would be some kind of physical manifestation. Perhaps an ectoplasm ghost form or something like that. At the very least I was expecting some kind of unusual dreams at night.

My result: There really wasn’t anything out of the ordinary that happened. The sex was better. However it was nothing as extreme as it was on my first encounter with Lilith ten years ago, or during my wedding night with her. Overall I would consider my attempt at the ritual to have not been a success as a result. I made a few minor mistakes in preparation but I didn’t get any indication from Lilith that these would be disqualifying of my attempt.”

You said you’d keep at it a few times, did anything change as you did?

“I tried for a few more nights and still no improvement. I am aiming to try one more time on this new moon in a few days (Author’s note: this interview was done a good while ago, so this has since happened). Also Lilith’s communication with me about the ritual aftermath has been very quiet. She has not directly said anything about it or if I did anything wrong. In contrast, during preperation, she did openly communicate about the things I was doing, and tried to let me know if I was making a mistake.”

Do you think she’s disappointed, either in you or herself? Do you think she’s the real individual Lilith or just an entity within a ‘lilithian’ energetic current?

“She has given me zero indication on the aftermath. It’s just been silence. So I have no idea what her thoughts are regarding it.

I believe the Lilith I am married to is the real Lilith. I do not think it is just a spirit using the alias. However there is a caveat. The real Lilith is a very busy spirit. I rarely get to see her or be with her. She will send one of her daughters to babysit me while she is gone. When Lilith appears, her presence is a lot stronger and communication is a lot more direct.

I’ve often used the analogy that she is a CEO of a big company who works 100 hours a week. So her having a day off to spend with her husband is really quite rare. I also think that is how she is able to maintain a lot of other human partners. Hopefully that makes sense. They are all under one flag, and there is a very real Lilith, but interacting with her is a rare occurrence.”

Conclusion

That’s the whole interview. I tried to get his thoughts on the various parts of the process, from the book to the results, It’s not the fireworks he or some others were expecting, but it is an interesting case study nonetheless. The actual grimoire in the book comes off as a very gnostic creation story with some Kabbalistic references, going by what Tim told me in any case. The actual ritual itself was a lot of work; we talked about and showed pictures of the parchment and the medallion, which required skills in metal working and tanning. There was also, from what I could tell, the awkwardness of the… menstrual blood collection, among many other things.

For all of that work he was hoping for a bigger result. I can’t really blame him, effort breeds expectations. I’ve made my thoughts on these kinds of rituals clear in Literalism and Ritualism, and while I disagree with this effort, it’s up to him to choose to do it or not. I won’t comment on the morality of it, though as stated earlier this is one of the tamer rituals. It would be an entirely different matter, and I would not be covering it, had he chosen to do something illegal to perform one of these rituals. For my part I remain further convinced of my stance regarding rituals in light of these results, but hey, maybe one day someone will do something like this again and get better results, and I’ll have to reconsider my position.

I’ve been absent for February and most of March. I spent February writing something completely different: a guide for a video game called Valheim. It’s on the steam guides page and shouldn’t be too hard to find if you’re interested in that. I decided that after that I’d take a break from writing. Now we’re back, and I do apologize for making you all wait this long for this, because I know some people have been very interested to hear about his results.

Remember, April 1st is the only day of the year where you can tell your family you’re dating an entity and not go to an asylum. I think I made that joke on here last year, and I’m not creative enough to make another one. I’m not sure what I will do for April, I’ve had a few ideas but will need time to figure out which one to go with. I hope you all are doing well, and that this pandemic reaches a swift end. I’ll see you all next month, and don’t worry, unless I suddenly get a job that eats up all my time, I won’t miss April.
