Telepathy is typically one of the first things that people think about when they think of the occult. They imagine spy thrillers or conspiracies where agents of shadowy government organizations communicate with one another using nothing but their minds. Maybe they instead think of powerful mediums speaking to the souls of the dead. Unfortunately this doesn’t teach us much of anything, and it still leaves us wondering what telepathy actually is. Is it something we can attain and use to communicate with our spirit lover? The answer from my personal experience has long been yes, as was clear all the way back in 2020 when I wrote The Early Stages. Within that I did talk about the subject briefly, and while I do think the information there is still sufficient to get someone started, I think it best that I expand on the topic.
In this blogpost we’ll be discussing the subject in some depth. We’ll mainly be looking at the why, when, how, and what: Why you’d be interested in developing the skill in the first place, when you should try to develop the skill, how one might do so, and what the experience is actually like.
The Why and When
Often these are the two most important questions that are brought up before someone actually attempts to learn the skill. The answer to the first question, ‘why should I bother’, is actually a bit more complex than it seems. On the surface it would seem obvious that being able to hold a direct conversation with one’s spirit lover would be desirable, and this is true. However, spirit lovers can communicate in many very clear ways already. Through dreams, through experiences, and through the use of tools one can get a pretty good idea of what their spirit lover is thinking. Since it’s established that they can already understand what you say to them, whether you’re saying it verbally or mentally, the question then becomes ‘what’s the point?’.
If we account for those ideas, the reasoning comes down to three things. One, it creates less room for misunderstanding. If you can reliably communicate telepathically with your spirit lover, it’s hard to misinterpret what they tell you as compared to symbolic dream experiences or the interpretation of tools. It also allows you to quickly clear anything up with them when you do end up confused. Two, it’s highly accessible and convenient once you’ve figured it out. You can do it any time, at any place, for even the simplest of reasons and conversations. It does not require heavy levels of meditation past the earliest stages when doing it, opening her up to a chat at dinner or during a movie. It also means you don’t need to pull out your deck or pendulum whenever you want them to answer some questions. Three, it allows the spirit lover to discuss everything they want to, rather than just specific things. It is not easy for a spirit lover to create a dream to communicate something important, nor is it especially accessible for them when we restrict them to yes or no questions and tarot cards. As we will see, telepathic communication allows them to very finely and succinctly communicate what they want us to know, and they can do it more or less whenever they have our attention.
So with that out of the way, when should we try to do this? Early relationships are often a bit of a firestorm and confusing, and trying to work in telepathy practice up front is adding more straw to the camel’s back. What I generally recommend is that you start working on this the moment that the relationship stabilizes. Once you’re used to the experiences and things sort of ‘cool down’ into a bit of a status quo, you should get started on this practice. That way it can be the focus, and you can more easily tell what success is like. That’s also around the point where you start wanting to know your spirit lover better, because you get used to what you already know about them. Typically you transition into that at around the 3-6 month mark, at least going by my experience and that of others.
The What and How
The next question to cover is the ‘What’, or what telepathy is actually like. When practicing most things, knowing what it feels like or is like isn’t actually that important, because you’ll just discover that on your own. With telepathy, however, understanding what it’s like to experience receiving it is actually very important for being able to receive and translate it at all. In my own case, the moment that I realized what it was like was the moment where it became a whole hell of a lot easier to receive it. For the longest time I’d only been able to get small smatterings of mental communication from my spirit lover, often in a way that felt forced or atypical. It was on one fateful evening, relaxing and meditating, that I put two and two together and finally understood what telepathy was actually like, and it was in that same meditation that I finally started experiencing it in the same way that I do today, many years later.
Telepathy is often thought of as a sensation like someone speaking in your head. This is because that’s how it’s shown in media, and because that’s how we imagine ourselves thinking. When we think a thought, especially if we are verbal thinkers, we attach a word to it, or a phrase. We believe that when we think ‘I am hungry’ that ‘I am hungry’ is the direct mental expression of ourselves being hungry. This is not true. Thinking ‘I am hungry’ is a mental dialogue or translation of a feeling, that feeling being hunger. We mentally internalize that we are hungry before we ever say or think ‘I am hungry’. The original thought or the ‘impetus’ here is a more vague feeling of hungriness that we then represent with those words.
Why is this relevant? Well, as I’ve stressed on this blog over the years and as is obvious to anyone with eyeballs, Spirit lovers are not physical beings. That means all kinds of things, but the most important thing that it means here is that they do not speak or think in words. What use do beings without vocal chords, mouths, or writing have for words? None. But an intelligence like that would still feel feelings and emotional impetuses. They would simply then experience or externalize these in a different way than we do if they need to. Using that hunger example and assuming that spirits get hungry, the spirit would still feel hunger or hungriness, but they would not say or think ‘I am hungry’. They’d express that in another way.
Then we wrap around to Telepathy. Telepathy is not words, or images, or actions. It is certainly nothing like a spirit speaking in your head. Telepathy is the transferring of a very specifically crafted feeling or impetus from the spirit to yourself. If a spirit lover was trying to communicate that they were hungry, as our example goes, what you would receive is that base feeling or emotional impulse of them being hungry. You would then normally translate it into a meaning, like you do your own feelings and thoughts, such as ‘My spirit lover feels hungry’. You may also translate this into dialogue from them, in this case you’d see it as them saying ‘I am hungry.’ This feeling or impetus can be very complex, worthy of entire paragraphs of translation. It is often far more than ‘I am hungry.’
This means many things. Telepathy being a translative process means that the way you perceive them as ‘speaking’ when you translate those words will be entirely up to your translation. You’ll experience it in your own preferred language, likely using the sort of speech you associate with them. If you’re primarily an image thinker, you will instead translate what they send you as an image, and if you’re a verbal thinker, you will tend to verbalize it instead, like you would any of your thoughts. Once you know that you’re looking for the source or impulse itself, it becomes much easier to recognize that communication. The downside is that without proper practice it’s easy to mistake one of your thoughts for theirs, which is when and why practice and meditation come.in.
At this point we reach the ‘how’, or how one might master this skill. The skill doesn’t take very much if any ‘psychic conditioning’ or some specific special mental elasticity. One is not born simply able to receive these communications or not. Receiving the impulse isn’t actually the difficult part at all for most people, and it seems that everyone who has a spirit lover is capable of receiving that kind of communication from their spirit lover. What does take practice is finding and recognizing that impulse and not mistaking your own feelings or impulses for theirs. That’s why we meditate and specifically empty our mind within those meditations, at least at first, so we can better experience the incoming impulse. There is also an element of mindfulness to the meditation, at least to the extent that one is aware of one’s own feelings and impulses. If you’re able to be intensely aware of your own feelings and impulses, it’s easier to figure out what isn’t yours.
For this reason I do feel that the activity in The Early Stages is a bit of an ill fit nowadays, because it generally assumed that you would have to be able to feel something external, or to receive something more actively. This is what I likely would have thought back then. It is entirely a process of reception, however, and while being more ‘spiritually aware’ for lack of a better way of putting it probably won’t hurt, the key to early telepathy really is in that mental emptiness and that mindfulness. Be aware of what’s yours and try to minimize it, so that you can hone into their impulse in the background. You then generally translate that impulse into whatever mode best suits your thinking. For me, that’s into words. There are tons of guides as to these kinds of meditation, as these are generally fairly generic and popular approaches to the craft.
Once you can find the impulse, it becomes a simple matter of repetition and practice more than anything. The more you do it, the better you’ll be at picking up on and translating that impulse, and eventually you’ll become so used to separating the two that it will be fairly accessible outside of meditation. The meditation is still useful, especially when discussing important topics, but it will cease being mandatory. Really the difficulty in telepathy mostly is figuring out the what that we discussed earlier. Once you’ve internalized that, the actual ‘how’ part is fairly easy with a few practice sessions, at least in my experience.
That’s really all there is to it. It’s not an intensely complex subject or something that is all that mind-blowing. It’s perhaps one of the most misunderstood things about communicating with a spirit, and in this case that misunderstanding is what actually makes it hard. Once you’ve worked past that, it seems like almost everyone with a spirit lover can begin communicating with them fairly reliably, though some people do remain more skeptical about what they communicate than others. As a general rule I’d keep anything serious or mind-bending for dream interpretation, as the nature of telepathy and your own thoughts can cause one to believe some… Odd things if one is not vigilant and skeptical. It’s very easy to take something wishful from yourself as gospel if you think it comes from them after all.
Very busy month, which is why this relatively short post came out so late. I’ve been working on a massive (non occult) writing project in the mean time. I did accomplish the goal that I mentioned in some earlier blogposts, so that’s great. I’ve really hit a productive stride this year, and I think it will be easy to carry that into editing my book as I get into the later half of May. The beginning of the month is going to be a lot of other kinds of work, but once I’m past that I will be in the clear. There will be a blogpost for May of course, I do not know what yet though. This post does say it was published in May because WordPress thinks it’s tomorrow sooner than I do.
I also Redesigned the blog. Again. You can probably tell if you’ve been here before. I like this one a lot more, and it has some extra functionality, though it causes some funny things to happen at the bottom of the page on mobile. I’ve also added featured images everywhere. If you think they’re weird, that’s because they’re almost all best fit stock photos.
I’m thinking I might make a WordPress email so that people can send me questions and stuff directly, which I can check every now and then and answer. It costs money though, but I guess I could make a Gmail or something instead. If you’d be interested in that, let me know.
There is already a discussion topic about spirit communication HERE. It’s simpler if we just use that to discuss this and other communication phenomena. This new theme also means that comments are now readable again, so feel free to use the comment feature if you want to, I will respond there too unless it somehow gets lost in the Aether.
